Ray Lacey
Ray Lacey is a South African artist and craniosacral therapist. His large format exhibition, “Interleukins and Ligands; The dance of a sensitive chaos,” incorporates a range of techniques from airbrush, silkscreen and paint combined with digitally sourced images on board and canvass. Drawing from his experience working with children and families for over twenty years, his work aims to build a bridge between science and art in a language that is engaging, intriguing and informative.

The function of the immune system depends to a large part on interleukins. Interleukins (ILs) are a group of cytokines (secreted proteins and signal molecules) which are synthesized by helper CD4 T lymphocytes.
In protein-ligand binding, the ligand is a molecule which produces a signal by binding to a site on a target protein. The binding typically results in a change of conformation of the target protein.
Neonatal Aesthetics
The term is new and has been coined to give expression to the inviolability of motherhood and explores perimeters of what it means to be human.
In the 1970’s a group of artists initiated a movement called “The New Ruralists,” focusing on Biblical themes with modern-day settings. In this series of compositions images have been sourced from contemporary social media posts and combined with annunciation paintings from Renaissance and other periods. The mix evokes an intriguing question:
“How would modern-day women respond to the annunciation that their destinies and personal circumstances are to change by Divine intervention?”
Seen from a broader perspective the annunciation theme can also be viewed as an epiphany or “Aha” experience of insight and understanding. These experiences in many instances come suddenly and unannounced.
Art transcends the boundaries of race, nationality and gender. It is a creative act of unifying in the context of humanity; from the subject to the various topics of meaning and being, by asking questions.
